Screen, Test & Protect

All students, whether taking classes online or on campus, are required to be screened before attending classes, living on campus or attending campus events and activities. Clinical students, residents and fellows who have worked on campus will continue to come to work and follow the guidelines for all health care workers. New clinical students, residents and fellows who have not been working on campus are required to be screened, tested and identified as COVID-19 negative.

Testing

  • Testing must be done at one of our testing locations; you may not be tested at another clinic or practice and bring those results as proof of testing.
  • Please bring your Gator 1 card.
  • Students will not be allowed to move back onto on campus until they have been screened and approved.
  • Mandatory testing may be required for:
    • Students working in clinical or research settings involving contact with patients and / or human subjects
    • Athletes and other groups who cannot reliably either wear a face mask/cloth face covering or physically distance in their day-to-day activities.

Understanding your screening results

If you have difficulty in understanding your screening results, please refer to the following list:

  • Cleared
    You successfully completed your screening and no additional information is required. You are approved to return to campus.
  • Cleared, Asked to Rescreen
    Our records indicate you have been cleared to return to campus, but you need to complete the screening questionnaire again.
  • Not Cleared
    According to the information submitted on the screening questionnaire, you are unable to return to campus at this point. You will receive further instructions soon.
  • Not Cleared, Asked to Rescreen
    According to the information submitted on the screening questionnaire, you are unable to return to campus at this point. You will receive further instructions soon and will be asked to complete an additional rescreening questionnaire.
  • Withheld from Campus
    Means a student is either waiting test results for COVID-19, tested positive or is a ‘close contact’ (as determined by a public health official) of someone who tested positive. Students are required to self-isolate or self-quarantine in alignment with UF Health recommendations. If a student is withheld from campus, they should not attend in-person classes or student events, or use campus facilities, including the libraries, Newell Hall and the Reitz Union. Facilities with swipe access, such as recreation centers, will automatically deny access to students who are withheld. Staff will work with students to ensure they are able to stay on track academically while withheld.
  • Return to campus
    ‘Returning to campus’ or ‘coming back to campus’ includes living in Gainesville, attending classes in person, living on campus and participating in campus activities and events.
  • Hold
    Having a ‘hold’ on your record means you will not be able to register for or add classes, adjust your fall term class schedule, and view or order an official copy of your transcript.
  • Deactivated
    Having your registration ‘deactivated’ means you will not be able to see your course schedule, register for or add classes, adjust your fall term class schedule, or view or order an official copy of your transcript.
  • Canceled
    Having your registration ‘canceled ’ means you will no longer be registered for classes. Once your classes are released, this action cannot be restored.

If you are a student and test positive, please follow our guidance on what to do next based on if you are a clinical or non-clinical student at UF. You will also receive a follow-up from Student Affairs to help support your specific questions and needs.

STEP 2

Quarantine and Self-Isolation

If you have tested positive or had close contact with a person who tests positive, you will need to isolate or self-quarantine.

Close Contacts

Our contact tracers will contact you if you have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive. If you believe you have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive, please call UF Health Screen, Test & Protect at 352-273-9790.
